Youth or Adult? Initiative

The Youth or Adult? Initiative started on the 20th August 2007.

Interviews for our Youth Worker will take place on the 15th July 2008.

Funding for this 5-year placement is by a grant from the Joseph Rank Trust (JRT); the funding not only pays for the Youth Worker’s salary and support, but also includes fees at the YMCA George Williams College for a degree course in Informal and Community Education. The Youth Worker will need to travel monthly to London and will have a college supervisor in Penzance. JRT see this as an investment in young people on the Lizard, and a development of leadership skills in the Youth Worker. The job holder will be supporting existing youth provision, building on LOT’s experience and opening new doors of opportunity; as has been the case in the past, activities and projects will be open to all on a voluntary, non-paying basis.

Details of the Youth or Adult? Initiative can be found on the JRT and Rank Foundation websites.

The Youth Worker’s line-manager will be Maggie Roberts (trustee) with Vicky Allen (trustee) as assistant. Vicky is a particularly valuable member of the team; a former pupil at Coverack and Mullion schools, with a degree in theology and post-graduate qualification in youth work, a volunteer with LOT before 3 years’ employment as a church youth worker. Both Vicky and Maggie attended a training conference organised by the Rank Foundation in Kendal in June 2007 and one in February 2008.

Updates on the project will appear on this website once our Youth Worker is in post.
